Guillermo Nevot
Guillermo is currently the chair of the society and committed to advance European Synbio. Guillermo is also a researcher at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, where he studies how to genetically domesticate skin bacteria to develop new diagnostics and therapeutics. Graduated in Biotechnology from the University of Zaragoza and a Master in Quantitative Biology from the University of Paris, Guillermo has a deep interest in the field of synthetic biology which took him to do research at international centres like the Pasteur Institute or the University of Warwick. He is also engaged in science education and communication, participating as a jury and mentor in the iGEM competition and publishing outreach articles in magazines like The Conversation or Jot Down.
Chair
Sofia J Ocha
Sofia has a life-time love with research related to microorganisms, from using them in vitro to help us understanding human disease to finding the mechanistic principles underlying gene translocation. She is amazed by how synthetic biology can provide an immense box tool to dig into molecular and cellular dynamics, not forgetting its cool applications in health and environmental sciences. Her current research focus on understanding host-microbiome interactions in the oral cavity.
Vice-chair
SecretaryLeo Sagal
Leo is a student at the University of Bath and on placement at Bicycle Therapeutics in Cambridge. He is interested in the broad practical applications, such as biomaterials, bioremediation and biotech, of SynBio that help solve big global problems. Anything involving engineering the living world! He would love to hear what you're working on and researching - get in touch!
