Dr Tom Knight is a former Senior Research Scientist at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. He is considered one of the fathers of synthetic biology. Currently he works at Ginkgo Bioworks, a company which he co-founded 2008.
Dr Michele Garfinkel is the Manager of the EMBO Science Policy Programme where she is responsible for policy research focused on biotechnology and scientific publishing. She has worked as a policy analyst at the J.Craig Venter Institute and has authored several reports on synthetic genomics.
Professor Luke Alphey is presently a group leader at the Pirbright Institute and a Visiting Professor at Oxford University. His spin-off company Oxitec is known for developing the innovative insect control system RIDL, and has set up controlled release trials of their engineered mosquitos for dengue control in Brazil. Oxitec has been sold to Intrexon Corporation for $160 million in 2015.
Dr Emily Leproust serves as CEO, co-founder and director of Twist Bioscience. She is an early pioneer in high throughput synthesis and sequencing of DNA. Prior to Twist Bioscience, Dr Leproust worked at Agilent and at the University of Houston.
